January Thaw

  The weakened sun
Rises from her cold and lonely
Bed of pain
To nourish the new-born year.

Her frail beams
Caress the icicles,
Lengthening and diminishing them.

Her strength builds to melt the snow
And soften the earth
For the coming seed.
